It’s finally done! I skipped out on doing a post about hitting 40,000 words because I just didn’t have much else to say. There was only so much advice I could give. So it is here today that I proclaim myself “finished”! I have that in quotes because despite the fact that I’ve reached 50,000 words, my novel isn’t finished. I have at least twelve more scenes to write, which will probably only amount to another 10,000 words or so. We’ll see.
To give you all an idea of what it was like to finish 50,000 words, I give you this clip. The first thirty seconds or so say it all.
The past two days were spent doing the most writing. Some days I would accomplish two day’s worth, but these nights I spent hours writing. I’m a slow writer unfortunately and that’s due to the distraction of the internet. That said, I managed to do about 4000 words last night and the remaining 3000 today. All of this was accomplished by listening to the same Japanese pop playlist on rather high volume at four in the morning (I had headphones on though). The song at the top of this post is a sample of what I was listening too (I love the art as well).
It cannot be overstated how important music was to this process. Throughout this month I’ve burned through the full soundtracks to four Final Fantasy games (VII, IX, X, and XII), Lorde first album several times over, and a Japanese playlist that was 45 songs long. It helps drown out my other thoughts and inspire me creatively. It was all very fun to listen to as well!
In case any of you are interested in my thoughts or advice during this month, I have linked my other posts below. And if any of you are curious to read what I wrote, well that will have to wait. Like I said above, I’m not finished. On top of that this is only the first draft. First drafts are the worst pieces of garbage you’ve ever read. It will need some serious tinkering before I show it to the public. Who knows, maybe – just maybe – I’ll get published 😉
